Last weekend Fryz competed in sectionals. We have been really excited for this tournament for quite a while. All of the girls wore their crazy leggings, and most everyone had orange face paint and nail polish (even the guys). At first all of the excitement made us nervous and we played out of character for the first couple games. We still had some amazing plays, but the team wasn't working as well as a unit as we normally do. Adding to the pressure was that we were playing the number one seed, Swagger, for our first game. After we got out some of our jitters we played O. We pulled away with the early lead, but O came back and we were trading points. Eventually we were tied and it was universe point. Thanks to some great handler offense against O's zone we scored the game winning point.
On day two we had even more pressure. Our ultimate goal was to make it to regionals, and the only way we could achieve our goal was by winning all three games that day. We embraced the challenge and won our first game. Our second game was started by a game of dodgeball against Splendid Fellowship. Fryz won the game and had tons of fun, a great way to start our next game. The fun continued as Fryz pulled ahead against Splendid Fellowship. At halftime we played another game of dodgeball with five representatives from each team again. Fryz used their young arms and natural athleticism to win the second dodgeball game. After half Fryz kept their lead (in the ultimate game, not dodgeball) and finished with a win. Splendid Fellowship, showing great spirit, decided to challenge us to yet another game of dodgeball. This game was with the full teams instead of 5v5 in the previous games. Fryz couldn't retain their title of the dodgeball champs, and Splendid Fellowship ended out on top for dodgeball.
Going into the final game of the day Fryz knew that this was going to be the most important game of the tournament. This game was going to determine whether or not we went to regionals. Fryz didn't start strong and by half we had quite a mountain to climb if we wanted to go to regionals. After half we started to rally, but we couldn't catch them. Even though we didn't make it to regionals it was a great experience for the team and we'll try again next year. Thank you to all of the coaches parents and fanz for supporting us!
